Service User Roles

The Evaluation will explore and validate the user roles of the service:

Primary Role

Trainee Doctors Revalidating:

All doctors, whether in training or not, are required to revalidate every five years in order to retain their licence to practice, which is issued by the GMC. For trainees, the revalidation process can be brought forward in order to coincide with the issuing of their Certificate of Completion of Training. The revalidation period cannot be extended past five years, otherwise the doctor’s licence to practice will expire.

Doctors themselves are responsible for ensuring they complete their revalidation, though they do receive prompts from their Designated Body and the GMC prior the revalidation becoming necessary. For Trainees revalidating, they must successfully complete their Annual Review of Competency to Practice (ARCP), have an up to date e-Portfolio and submit a Form R, parts A and B. The Trainee’s Royal College administers their e-Portfolio, but it is the Trainee’s responsibility to keep it up to date. The ARCP is conducted by a panel which reviews the Trainee’s e-Portfolio and issues an ‘Outcome’. The Trainee is not normally present at the panel meeting. Only an Outcome 6 allows Trainees to be recommended for revalidation. Other outcomes will result in a recommendation for revalidation to be deferred until a successful outcome can be achieved.
