Introduction:

  • TIS is a national initiative to develop information systems for management and administration of trainees and learnersi

  • TIS has taken over ‘Intrepid’, the old system but is built from scratch. Data from Intrepid have been imported to TIS and manipulated as per the requirements of TIS

  • Multiple components of TIS is as above and it is still expanding

Where are we now:

  • TIS was taken over in March 2020 but the team do not know how the users feel about TIS

  • Their likes and dislikes

  • How do users reach their goal?

  • Where are the pain points?

  • Has TIS incorporated best practices?

  • How do different users use it? (are a few good at it or vice versa???)

  • Anything they really like about the new system?

  • Anything they are missing from the old system?

  • Are we missing out on any users because they are unable to use the new system?

Likely methods:

Each research method has benefits and drawbacks. As such, each can be used for achieving different goals. Which method we choose depends on what we want to achieve as well as a number of practical concerns, like project type, budget & time constraints.

For TIS (admin), there has not been much UR done and we do not know how it is doing with our users. Thus the initial plan is to:

  • Run initial survey to look at acceptability of TIS

  • If survey successful, analyse if there is any particular component which needs priority attention for further tests

  • Type of methods will depend on research question, time, people, budget

How to contact (admin) users?

  • For Admin UI:

  • Each local office have their TIS contact persons. Contact them.

  • Local office contacts by regions are:

  1. London (too big so not in south): Maria Kist

  2. South (& SW): Sue Barrand

  3. North (& NW): Lucy Elmsley

  4. Midlands and East: James Harris

Trainee UI

  • Is in the process of development

  • We have done some initial discovery work with users

  • Need to build community of trainee and programme directors

  • Personas – types of users (range of trainees, older/younger, not first language English, come back after leave etc. etc.)

How to contact (Trainee) users?

  • ALL CONTACT WITH TRAINEES NEED TO BE THROUGH BUSINESS MANAGERS. Business managers are contacted through Rob Pink/James Freed, Alistair Pringle (Unlicensed)

  • Concting trainees is complicated and will have to be done carefully and in stages. (Because) there is a history of protests by trainees in relation to MTAS system not working and other recent histories. NETS and GMC has there own surveys to get trainee feedback. Trainees do not like repetative contact from HEE. ALL CONTACT WITH TRAINEES NEED TO BE THROUGH BUSINESS MANAGERS because they know their own constituency which we do not have knowledge of. We cannot antogonise trainees. There is a lead BM in London who will be contacted. Rob Pink will inform us about the next steps.

  • The structure of getting to them are through the following stakeholders:

  1. PGMDE : Post Graduate Medical and Dental education

2. Deans

  • Trust Programme Directors (responsible for training trainees)

  • Heads of Schools

  • Medical Directors

  • Trainees

3. Business Managers at local offices

[Trust HR, Post grad (training) centre managers, educational supervisors]

4. Assessments, Placements

5. Others:

  • Trainers from local teams

  • Clinical fellows (employed by HEE on behaf of trainees)

  • Network of doctors

  • No labels
