Royal College e-portfolios

Each Royal College requires its trainees to use their version of e-portfolio to record their training/assessments against their programme curriculum/curricula.

Local offices also use the college e-portfolios to (in varying degrees) set up, manage and administer the ARCP function.  As HEE local offices are also expected to record the ARCP information in TIS this results in duplicate input for the admins in local offices.

Following meetings with the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians it is apparant that there is interest from the colleges to reduce the duplicate input however it needs to be made clear that (following confirmation from Angela Fletcher (Senior Business Manager)):

  • HEE own the ARCP process
  • HEE are the data owners of the ARCP data
  • HEE should hold the master system for managing the ARCP process.

Research has shown that colleagues in local offices use the e-portfolios to varying degrees due to the varying level of functionality in each system.  Over the next two months the sheet below will be populated with details of the e-portfolios used by each college/faculty and the data input requirements:

The aim of the exercise is to understand the scope of the duplication of input and the information that is only input into one of the two systems.

In order to fully maximise the use of TIS and the opportunity it presents to the local offices teh scope of this exercise will be wider than ARCPs - it will look at all information input into each system and also any data transfer requirements such as exam results, attendence on college managed courses and any reporting requirements between the colleges and HEE.
